Elphin GAA CLUB NOTES 20th Feb 2017

November 8, 2018

Elphin 2-8 Strokestown 1-11

Frankie Cregg scored 1-1 in the last three minutes to secure a 2-8 to 1-11 Draw for the Seniors against Strokestown in the League. Elphin opened the scoring through a Fintan Cregg free in the 3rd minute but moments later Strokestown put the ball in the Elphin net. The lads didn’t panic and by the 6th minute were ahead by double scores. Gerry and Frankie Cregg pointed and a shot from Gerry took a deflection and went in to the Strokestown net. Strokestown then scored three without reply to equalise before a free from Frankie put us in the lead again. Gerry made it 1-5 to 1-3 midway through the half. Strokestown again slotted over three points without reply and at half-time they led by 1-6 to 1-5.

Strokestown made it four in a row with the opening point of the second half before a Fintan Cregg free in the 37th minute halted the run. Frankie Cregg equalised a minute later from a free and for the third time in the game Strokestown scored three unanswered points. An 11 minute scoring drought followed and Strokestown may have thought that victory was in their grasp. With a minute of normal time remaining a Frankie Cregg goal tied the game. Strokestown edged ahead in additional time but in the last minute Frankie converted a free to leave it Elphin 2-8 Strokestown 1-11.

Best for Elphin were Frankie Cregg, Shane Beirne, Fintan Cregg and Shane Killoran. Best of luck to Fintan, Shane and the Roscommon Seniors against Mayo on Saturday at 7pm in Castlebar.
