SENIORS:

Elphin Seniors progressed to the semi final of this year’s Championship with a hard fought victory over a dogged St Croan`s in ideal conditions in sunny O’Rourke Park on Sunday evening.
While neither side lacked effort the game rarely reached the intensity expected from a Championship Quarter final. The first half was an even contest with the two sides trading scores and Elphin going in at the break with a slight advantage leading by five points to four.
St Croan`s started the second half brightly and drew level but Elphin responded immediately and could have been awarded a penalty when Frankie Cregg was fouled in front of goal but a 13 metre free was the decision. Elphin continued to take some good scores while St Croan`s found the Elphin defence in top form and possession was turned over on several occasions.
In a match which lacked excitement the save of the match came from the St Croan`s goalie when he dived full length to deny Damien Cregg, who fired in a good shot when finding himself in an unusually advanced position 20 metres from goal.
It was a comfortable victory for Elphin in the end and they know that a tougher test lies ahead and an improved performance will be required to overcome either Kilmore or Castlerea in the County Semi final.
