Elphin GAA Update September 25th
Adult Football League Division 1: Elphin 2-12 Kilmore 1-7:
The Seniors maintained their AFL Division 1 status for next year thanks to an eight point win over Kilmore in the Orchard on Sunday. It what was a tight game it was the visitors who made the better start; Dara Feeley scoring a goal after eight minutes. We responded with a pointed free from Fintan Cregg and a goal from Gerry Cregg. The defensive nature of the game was evident on the scoreboard – the sides were 1-1 apiece after 20 minutes. Points from Martin McCaffrey and Damien Cregg and a goal from Frankie Cregg in the space of five minutes put us in a commanding position. Kilmore added two late points to leave it Elphin 2-3 Kilmore 1-3 at the interval.
We began the second half well; Gerry Cregg scoring three points without reply. Two Kilmore points reduced our lead to four; 2-6 to 1-5. Gerry Cregg, Joseph Beirne and two points from Frankie Cregg gave us a double score lead. The Kilmore was not helped by the dismissal of Mark Connellan. Fintan Cregg, Derek Connellan and Paul Garvey all pointed late in the game to leave it Elphin 2-12 Kilmore 1-7.
The Senior Management would like to thank the players for all the effort they put in during the season and also Seamus and Una Killoran, Martin Beirne and Seán Lenehan for their help and support throughout the year.
Best of luck to the Juniors against Clann na nGael in their AFL Division 3 Relegation Play-off on Saturday at 7:30pm in Johnstown.
