FAI Ford Senior Cup 2nd round draw

November 7, 2018

The draw for the 2nd round of the FAI Ford Cup took place live on RTE’s MNS this evening.

In one of just two all Premier Division ties Drogheda United will play Bohemians on the weekend ending the 2nd June in Dalymount Park. The other will see St. Patrick’s Athletic host UCD in Richmond Park.

Drogheda’s only success in the competition came in 2005 when they beat Cork City 2-0 before a crowd of over 24,000 in Lansdowne Road. Goals from Gavin Whelan and Captain Declan ‘Fabio’ O’Brien secured the cup for Drogheda.

Last season, Drogheda advanced to the quarter-finals of the cup where they drew 0-0 against St. Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park. The replay in Hunky Dorys Park saw Drogheda appear to have secured a place in the semi-finals when Derek Prendergast scored in the 79th minute only for Vinny Faherty to equalise in the 90th minute. Extra time produced no further goals and the penalty shoot-out that ensued saw Tiarnan Mulvenna and Sean Brennan missing and Gavin Brennan’s penalty saved by Pat’s keeper Barry Murphy to put St. Pat’s through to the semi-finals.
