First Game of the Michael Walsh Intermediate League Report

November 8, 2018

Mayo Gaels got the 2016 season off to a good start when they defeated The Neale in the first round of the 2016 Michael Walsh League which was played in The Neale on Saturday evening the 27th of February.

Played in perfect weather conditions both teams served up an entertaining and free flowing game of football. Gaels were the livelier team in the first half however an inability to turn good possession into scores resulted in the Gaels only leading by two points at half-time (0.05 to 0.03).

Early points in the second half by Kevin Jordan and Tommy Keane coupled with an opportunist goal from Gerry Canavan steadied the lads and, with the home team tiring quickly, the Gaels added several good scores from play to finish out comfortable winners.

Mayo Gaels played some excellent football on the day and had strong performances from Alan Brett, Kevin Lynch, Kevin Jordan, Sean Boyle, Ryan McGurrin and Alan Morris.

The senior’s play Tourmakeady in the second round of the Michael Walsh League in Tourmakeady next Saturday evening, the 5th of March at 4.00pm.
