Fr. Murphy’s
beat Croydon on Saturday in Greenford in the final group game of this years
Senior Championship to set up a semi final meeting with
The champions
started well and got the first score of the day courtesy of a Grainne Hunter
point. It was a tough physical game from the start and scores were always going
to be hard come by for either side. Fr. Murphy’s showed some great play
throughout the first half and spent a lot of it in the Croydon half, but found
it hard to convert their chances. They led at half time by the minimum, two
points to one.
A goal and a
point at the start of the second half seemed to put Fr. Murphy’s firmly in the
driving seat, but Croydon never gave up and pulled a couple of points back. And
a tactical change saw Anne Marie O’Dwyer switch from full back to full forward
where she crashed home a goal to keep Croydon in touch. The champions stayed
cool however and hung on for a four point victory – 2-05 v 1-04.
