Gallant minors defeated at final hurdle

Minor County final

We played Ballina in the County Minor final on Sunday 20th in Semple Stadium, Thurles. After enjoying the better of the early exchanges we led at the 20 minute mark by 1-04 to 1-02, Sean Ryan with the goal. However excellent teamwork and deadly finishing from Ballina in a quick burst gave them a lead at half time on a scoreline of 3-03 to 1-04. The second half saw us come back into the game and we got a boost 12 minutes in with a fine finish to the net from Brian Carey to make the score 2-06 to 3-05, Ballina responded well though but we never gave up and received another lifeline with 10 minutes to go when Patrick Carey swept to the net following a strong run through the centre from Sean Ryan however Ballina regained their poise and withstood our best efforts to record victory on a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-12. Well done to the team, management and thanks to supporters who followed this excellent team who displayed great determination and skill throughout the season.

The team lined out as follows: Shane Stapleton, James Condon, Willie Mackey, Dylan Fahey, Tommy Lyons, Andy O’Brien, Matt Feehan, Sean Ryan 1-01, Patrick Deegan 0-01, Sean Burke, Darragh Kennedy 0-02, Ger Egan 0-01, Tom Ryan, Brian Carey 1-03, Paul Ryan. Subs used: Emmet Ryan, Patrick Carey 1-02, Simon Maher
