Galway Corinthians Youth Academy Report

U15’s v Galwegians (H) Won 43-12

Great win in the end for U15’s, but a bit of a wake-up call in the first quarter of the game. Wegians started the game with greater intensity and Corinthians turned the ball over too often for comfort, leading to Wegians being up 12-0 with ten minutes gone. But great credit to the U15’s, they turned things around. Michael O’Connell was outstanding at the breakdown, Paul Maher carried the ball well, Paddy Griffin showed his pace on the wing and Joe O’Connor made a great hand-off to score a try in the dying minutes of the game. So a great win in the end!

Michael O’Connell 2 tries, Paddy Griffin 2 tries, Rory O’Connor 1 try, Diarmuid Curran 1 try, Daniel Trayers I try, Phillip Murphy 3 cons, Keelan Ward 1 con

U14’s v Buccs (h) Won 50-8

Another great performance and big win for the the U14’s v Buccaneers at home. However, with both Ballinasloe and Galwegians also unbeaten and laying in wait, the U14’s might have sterner tests to come. But it is developing into an exciting climax to the U14 league.

Cillian O’Griofa 2 tries, Seosamh Mac Donnacha 1 try, Joe Dixon 1 try, Aaron Murray 1 try, Padraic McCormack 1 try, Colm Kiduff 1 try, Geriod O’Cualain 1 try, Colm de Builear 5 cons.

U16’s v Buccs (a) Won 31-12

A great team performance, led to a 31-12 win at Buccaneers. Corinthians scored 5 excellent tries in all, three by the outstanding Cathal Evans, one of which, in particular, was a great team try, with Corinthians holding onto the ball through numerous phases; there was great inter change between the backs and forwards, lasting a period of three minutes before Cathal scored. Colin Joyce made a huge contribution in defence, making many outstanding tackles and rounded of an excellent game with a try from a well-worked lineout drive from the forwards. Colin Keane at out-half completed the scoring with a cheeky try under the posts and 3 conversions.

U19’s v Galwegians (a) Lost 15-27

Despite a strong performance from the forward pack and two good tries from Aodhan Glynn and Craig Joyce, turn-overs and unforced errors proved costly in the end for the U19’s.

Aodan Glynn 1 try, Craig Joyce 1 try, Daithi Joyce 1 pen, 1 con.
