Gibbons welcomes beacons for Rostrevor and Hilltown

November 7, 2018

Speaking about the beacons Mr.Gibbons said:

“I want to take this opportunity to once again thank Peace III and Groundworks NI for supplying Hilltown and Rostrevor with bonfire beacons. I made representations last year in my role as a member of the Newry & Mourne PCSP to Peace III and Groundworks NI to have the very first bonfire beacons in Rostrevor and Hilltown respectively, and ever since then I have to say that both organisations have done their up most to help in any way possible regarding supply and demand.

“Each Bonfire Beacon design is a reusable, two-part steel structure, reaching five metres in height and is pre-filled with carbon neutral willow wood. While most residents in Rostrevor can remember when there was nearly a bonfire in every estate, over the last five years Groundwork has been delivering a more environmentally and family friendly alternative, and it also takes away a lot of the antisocial elements of the bonfires of old. I would like to personally thank Gavin Keown from Groundworks for being very accommodating on beacon placement within the village and I hope to work with Gavin and his team for years to come.

“The bonfire beacon in Rostrevor will be part of a whole host of fun Pumpkinfest events at the Kilbroney Centre, that has once again been organised by the excellent Kilbroney Community association and their hard working sub-committee, Kilbroney Community Youth. So I would ask everyone in the village to come up to the Kilbroney Centre on Halloween night and enjoy the fun filled activities.”
