Launch of Five Year Plan
Glenroe G.A.A.Club will launch their Five Year Development Plan at an open meeting in Glenroe Community Hall on Friday, 15th May at 8:30 p.m. Further details will be revealed over the next few weeks.
Junior B’s
Glenroe Junior B’s played their first game in the South League on Saturday evening last against Croom in Croom but found the opposition too strong.
Glenroe 1-3 Croom 2-9
Croom totally dominated during the first half of this game. They scored their first point in the 4th min and added a further five points before the half-time break. They could have been further ahead except for the fact that they hit seven wides. The Glenroe forwards could not make any headway with the ball being returned to the Glenroe backs time after time. All six backs played exceptionally well during this period with Diarmuid McCarthy and Maurice Kelly being particularly impressive.
Glenroe performed better in the second half. Ian McCarthy scored their first point one minute into the half. However Croom responded with the first of their two goals two minutes later. Kevin Hickey scored a point before the second goal was conceded. Croom extended their lead with a point in the 39th min. Glenroe finished the better with a point by Ian McCarthy and a goal by substitute, Shane Hennessy. However, Croom scored a further two points to win out by 2-9 to 1-3 in the end.
Best for Glenroe were Diarmuid McCarthy, Maurice Kelly, Willie Coffey, Tommy O’Donnell, Justin McCarthy and Liam Sheehy
Team & Scorers: A McSweeney, T O’Donnell, W Coffey, S McCarthy, M Kelly, D McCarthy, P Moloney, J McCarthy, L Sheehy (Capt.), R Slyne, D O’Connor, I McCarthy (0-2), D McDonnell, K Hickey (0-1) & D Nunan.
Subs. Used: Shane Hennessy (1-0) for Pa Moloney (Half-Time); Sean Coffey for Dave McDonnell (Half-Time); Aaron McCarthy for Danny Nunan (40th min.); Mark Ahern for Richard Slyne (41st min.); Eddie Nunan for Declan O’Connor (54th min.).
Minors
Glenroe minors were defeated by Hospital/Herberstown in the South 12-a-side hurling league played in Glenroe on Sunday afternoon last. The teams were evenly matched during the first half but Hospital/Herberstown upped their performance in the second half and ran out easy winners by 2-13 to 0-9 in the end.
Sympathy
Our sincere sympathy to the Coffey family on the recent death of William, Tankardstown and formerly of Darragh.
