The U16’s got their Championship off to a winning start with a 12 pt win over Rhode in Edenderry. The Reds made hard work of their victory but the win has set them up nicely in the group.
Edenderry 4-09 Rhode 0-09
Edenderry dominated possession in this encounter and proved that there are future stars at the Juvenile grade. Despite a good start the Young Reds began to lose their way close to half time and threatened to allow Rhode back into the game. However great work by Aaron Moules, David Maloney, Jordan Farrell & Peter McNamara helped the Reds make it to the break with their noses in front.
Stern words from Mick Bryan at half time seemed to awaken the lads and more fluid football prevailed in the second half. Lee Hyland bravely punched to the net after some great work from Jordan Hayes who was coming into the game more and more with super assistance by the always lively McNamara.
At the back Edenderry tightened up and became more composed with better placed balls out of defence. Well done to U14 goalie Oísin O’Grady who stepped up a grade and kept a clean sheet.
Keep an eye put for this team if they put in the work they will go the distance.
