Greenfields 0 - 3 Galway

November 8, 2018

Greenfields senior team had hopes of beginning the new season as they did last year, where they picked up an early win against Galway.  Unfortunately, It was Galway who picked up the win this time.

Galway looked dominant in midfield from the outset. Their forwards were continuously putting the Greenfields defence under pressure and this paid off when they were awarded a number of short corners.

A testament to the fantastic goal-keeping skills of Sinéad Collins, as Galway has seven short corners in the first 15 minutes with no results.  Greenfields were starting to feel like they were getting the upper hand, and for a 10 minute spell started to come back into the game with some fast attacking hockey.

We too forced a couple of short corners but could convert none.
Then Galway made a quick break down the pitch and were awarded yet another short corner, which was converted with an unstoppable goal.

The second half saw Greenfields under continuous pressure from Galway.
Again a number of short corners were awarded against us, & again, keeper Sinéad Collins played a blinder, but Galway eventually succeeded in hitting the back-board again.
The rest of the game continued on the same path, & with Galway looking the sharper of the two teams, their persistence was awarded with yet another goal.

The final score of three-nil gives Greenfields some food-for-thought.
Coach Deirdre McDermott hopes that the team will have learned a lot from this shaky start, & go forward with renewed determination.
