On Saturday last our under 14 footballers put on a fine display in the Co. Final and were unlucky to be defeated Thurles Gaels after extra time. St. Pat's got off to an explosive start scoring two goals in the first few minutes. Thurles gaels then got going and pegged back the lead and the teams were level at half-time. The second half was tit for tat with scores exchanged at either end. Things were looking good for St. Pat's with five minutes to go as they led by two points. Indeed at this stage of the game our lads had chances to finish off the game and these misses were to prove to be very costly at the end as Thurles gaels scored a goal in the final minute to go one point ahead. It took a point from a free from Conor Duggan to level the game in the dying seconds. With the score level at full time extra time had to be played to determine the winners. Thurles gaels started the extra time the stronger and scored two quick goals. For the rest of extra time it was a case of St. Pats bombarding the Thurles goal to try and peg back the goals but unfortunately time ran out and Thurles Gaels were crowned county champions. It was a very disappointing end to the game for our lads as they rued the miss chances they had to finish out the game in full time however they can be very proud of their performance. They now turn their attention to hurling where we hope they can repeat their acheivements in football by winning the south hurling championship and hopefully have another crack at a county title.
