Hurlers Beaten in Semi-Final

November 8, 2018

Edenderry……0-13
Shinrone……..1-16

Edenderry hurlers bowed out the Junior Hurling Championship at the semi-final stage last Saturday evening in Killurin, when they failed to overcome the championship favourites Shinrone in an exciting semi-final.

After a tight first half in which there was little to separate the sides, Shinrone went in at halftime 0-9 to 0-8 in front. Immediately after the break Edenderry levelled, but then Shinrone grabbed the games only goal to pull ahead. Edenderry did put Shinrone under some good pressure, but a combination of some poor misses and good goalkeeping meant Edenderry wouldn’t get the scores required to overcome a very good Shinrone side.

The best of luck to Shinrone in their upcoming final. Well done to the Declan Cummins, Jimmy O’Grady and all the lads for reaching the semi-final of the championship. Despite this result, it has been a good year for the hurlers with some fine wins over Seir Kieran, Kilcormac/Killoughey, Drumcullen, Ballinamere and Killeigh. It is hoped to have a full report shortly.

Team: Brendan McCabe; Conleth Carey, Shane Connell, Enda Bagnall; Thomas Fay, Eoghan Kelly, Shane Kelly; Sean Og Farrell, David Hanlon; Stephen Murphy, Martin Keogh, Paul Hanlon; Derek Egan, Cillian Farrell, Jason Carey.

Substitutes: Bill Glennon, Jonathon Geraghty, John Paul Brennan, Andrew Hynes, John McDonnell, Eoin Kelly.
