IFC: Clonmore 0-19 Ballon 1-4

November 8, 2018

Clonmore Intermediates made sure of 2nd place in Group with an assured win over Ballon and will now play Leighlinbridge in the quarter final on the week end of 18 September.

Clonmore gave an exhibition of point scoring in the game and were ahead by 0-9 to 1-1 at half-time after playing with the wind in the first half.  Ballon’s goal was scored by Michael  O’Leary from a rebound after Collie McGrath had saved his penalty kick.

In the second half, Clonmore continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over with points from Gavin Byrne, Owen Coleman, Con Murphy and Shane McGrath. Ballon’s dangerman, Alan Kelly, was being well marshalled by Shane Murphy and after they were reduced to 14 men in 45th minute,  Clonmore ran out deserving winners. Clonmore’s half-back line was outstanding and even managed to score four points between them, with Shane Murphy crowning a Man-of-the-Match performance with a late point, David Mulvany chipping in with two great long range points and Pauric Lawlor keeping up his good habit of scoring a point or two in most games.

After this excellent team performance, the Championship campaign is back on track and Paddy Molloy and the lads can look forward to the game against L’bridge full of confidence.
