Intermediate Championship: Clonmore 1-8 Fighting Cocks 1-6

November 8, 2018

The Intermediates got their Championship campaign back on track with a narrow victory over a strong Cocks team on Sunday in Tullow. After a nervous start, we were happy enough to go in at half-time level on 0-3 apiece, our points coming from David Mulvany, Pauric Lawlor and Con Murphy.

Due to a clash of colours, Clonmore changed to white jerseys at half-time and literally looked a different team in the second half. We received an early boost when Con Murphy cracked home a penalty after Kevin McCarney was fouled with the goal at his mercy, after being put through by David Mulvany. This settled the team and they started to play with more of their usual dash. Two well pointed frees by Con Murphy and a point from Shane McGrath put us 1-6 to 0-4 ahead on 42 minutes but the Cocks were awarded a soft penalty on 48 mins which brought them back into it and the lively Gary Nolan levelled the scores at 1-6 apiece on 50 minutes. This left us living on our nerves towards the end and we missed a few good chances to close out the game but two more points from the outstanding Con Murphy eventually saw us home for a narrow but deserved victory – 1-8 to 1-6.
