Intermediate C'ship: Clonmore 3-14 Palatine 0-11

November 8, 2018

Clonmore took full advantage of the wind in the first half and their forwards were in great scoring form, building up a big lead at half-time: 2-8 to 0-3. Clonmore’s first goal on the 15th minute was a classic move with John McGrath driving a diagonal ball to corner forward Niall Humphries who fed inrushing midfielder Ronan Doyle to bury the ball in the roof of the net. The second goal on 21 mins was rather more fortunate as Gavin Byrne’s long range kick for a point deceived the Pal goalkeeper and ended in the net – the wind no doubt playing a part.

Clonmore’s half time substitute Owen Coleman put the result beyond doubt by scoring 1-1 early in the second half to extend the lead to 3-9 to 0-6 on 40mins. Palatine’s James Reid, once again gave an exhibition of point scoring but his 10 points were not enough to influence the result.
