Burrishoole 3-11 Mayo Gaels 1-6

The Intermediate team took on Burrishroole in Newport on a mild Tuesday evening. Despite having most of the possession in both half’s the team failed to turn it into scores allowing Burrishroole to bag the two points on offer.

The opening minutes saw Burrishroole trick the Gaels defence and cleverly slot the ball to the back of the net. Danny Burke got the Gaels on the scoreboard with a point from a free in the 5th minute. Hard work from the Gaels defence saw Johnny Morrin open his personal account with a point from play. Danny Burke pointed again for the Gaels with a free on the 10th minute, but Burrishroole weren’t going to let themselves fall behind bagging another goal one minute later. Danny slotted a point from play over the bar again for the Gaels before Burrishroole notched up two more points from play in response. Mayo Gaels ‘kepper Cathal Vahey pulled off a great save to keep the sides close but Burrishroole pressed hard to find a consolation prize, two points soon after ( one free). Danny Burke edged the Gaels closer with a goal to the narrow the gap but Burrishroole put the heads down determined to keep their lead with 1-1 before the half-time whistle leaving a score line of Mayo Gaels 1-4 Burrishroole 3-5.

The second half was a lacklustre affair on Gaels front. Burrishroole notched up four unanswered points before Danny Burke assisted the Gaels score line with a point from play. Burrishroole notched up two more points to their tally followed by a point from Danny Burke to leave a full time score line of Mayo Gaels 1-6 Burrishroole 3-12.
