It looked as if we were in for a good game. However, with only six minutes gone, that was to be The Gael’s one and only score of the first half. Over the next ten minutes Kilmaine landed 6 fine points with the wind. the Gaels tried to counter the onslaught by bringing Johnny Morrin on for John Sloyan and deploying him at full forward, however we just couldn’t get any ball up the field. Then, after twenty minutes we were dispossessed in defence and the resulting passage of play saw Kilmaine fire to the net. As the rain started to pelt down Kilmaine added two further points, one from a 45′, leaving the half time score 1-0 to 1-9. Kilmaine continued in the second half where they had left off in the first. Their superior work rate and off-the-ball running never allowed the Gaels to get into gear. Their four points in the 2nd half was only interrupted by a single Mayo Gaels point from Adam Gallagher. The final score was Mayo Gaels 1-01, Kilmaine 1-13. With the first round of the Championship looming, the Gaels need to put this game behind them and get their on-field mojo working, and quickly. Mayo Gaels: Paul Mannion, Noel Quinn, Allyn Brett, Anthony Byrne, John Sloyan, Kevin Brett, Shane Vahey, Joe Wash, Sean Boyle, Shane Lyons (1-0), James Fallon, Kevin Lynch, Paul Walsh, Adam Gallagher (0-1), Danny Burke Subs: Neill McGurrin for Danny Burke, Alan Morris for Adam Gallagher, Stuart
McLoughlin for Anthony Byrne, Brian Heneghan for Shane Vahey.

Mayo Gaels 1-1 Kilmaine 1-13
Mayo Gaels suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Kilmaine in this, the fourth round of the Breaffy House Hotel Senior Football League Division 1C game at Abbey Park on Sunday. It was a cold windy day and it took both teams a while to get to grips with the conditions. Kilmaine had the advantage of the wind in the first half and eventually started the scoreboard ticking with a point from play after five minutes. Almost immediately the Gaels responded when James Fallon and Joe Walsh won possession at midfield and a high ball in was broken by Danny Burke to Shane Lyons. Shane had a lot to do to get within shooting distance but he did it with ease and finished his run with a fine shot to the back of the Kilmaine net.
