Crossmolina B 3-7 Mayo Gaels 0-13

The old saying that goals wins games certainly came true in Crossmolina on Sunday morning when despite dominating the game for large periods our intermediate team lost out to the locals by three points.

On a glorious day for football the Gaels opened their account with a Jonathan Griffin free. Crossmolina then took control and kicked three points from play and a wonderful finish for a goal to leave them five points up. A Damien Quinn free and a point from play reduced the gap to three before Crossmolina capitalised on a defensive mistake for another goal to stretch their lead to seven. The Gaels finished the half strongly with four points to a solitarily reply from Crossmolina. Two Damien Quinn points from play, a Jonathan Griffin free and an Adrian Heneghan point from play left the halftime score 2-4 to 0-6 in favour of the home side.

What ever was said at halftime certainly had the desired affect with the Gaels storming into the game for the next twenty minutes. With the evergreen James Fallon lording the fielding at midfield the Gaels hit the next six scores. Jonathan Griffin kicked a good free, then the hardworking Damien Quinn hit three points, two frees and a well worked point from play after a lung busting run from Sean Boyle. Niall Brett and Danny Burke also followed up with fine points from play to leave the Gaels two points up, 2-4 to 0-12. Crossmolina then broke down field to score a goal against the run of play. The Gaels hit back to level through another Damien Quinn effort from play. But boasted by their third goal the home team finished the stronger with two points from frees and another from play to leave the final score 3-7 to 0-13. It must also be said that Jason Hurst had an outstanding game for the Gaels at full back.

The team now face a must win game at home against Lahardane on Saturday evening.
