Intermediate team take two points in Killala. Killala 1-12 Mayo Gaels 2-11

Mayo Gaels earned a hard won victory away to Killala on Sat17th Sept.  Our intermediate team made the long journey north to Killala on Saturday evening and came away with both points thanks to a fine performance. It was a wet and windy affair and the Gaels had to dig deep to come away with the points, inflicting Killala’s first defeat of the year in Div 1D. Playing with the wind in the 1st half, the Gaels squandered many chances but led by 2:04 to 0:07 at half time. The first goal was a well-worked passage of play that left Neill McGurrin one-on-one with the keeper and Neill made no mistake. The second goal was a fortunate one. Paul Mannion’s 45 dipped just under the crossbar and should have been dealt with by the Killala defense. Coming out in the 2nd half, the Gaels knew they would be up against it. However, battling against the wind they notched up 3 unanswered points that put them firmly in the driving seat. Killala were unable to close the six point gap until the very last minute when they scored a penalty. The resulting kick-out was the last play of the game and the Gaels were a very happy bunch leaving Killala.

They face Crossmolina B at home the the final league game which has yet to be fixed. They have a very long shot at promotion but you never know and must keep battling to the end.
