Intermediate hurling
We played reigning champions Lattin/Aherlow in a fast paced encounter on Friday 3rd July in Cappawhite.

It was knockout hurling and game had that extra bite from the word go with both teams desperate to stay in the divisional championship. Both teams struggled to get a foothold on the game as it took four minutes before the game got its first score. Cathal Dillon pointing from a free and this was quickly followed by a Shane Neville point as Lattin/Cullen opened up a two point lead. We finally opened our account with just under eight minutes gone on the clock when Patrick Carey pointed from a free. Cathal Dillon added to his tally on tenth minute when he pointed from a sixty-five as Lattin/Cullen Gaels stretched their lead back to two points. As both teams tried to find their feet in the game they continued to cancel each other out with scores that were hard to come by. As the first quarter drew to a close the game started to settle down. Jody Ryan was starting to cause problems for the Lattin/Cullen Gaels defence and he added another score. Seamus Grogan got his first score of the game to gain keep the Gaels two points in front. Mark Russell extended Lattin/Cullen Gaels lead to three with another point. We were really starting to come into the game and points from Patrick Carey and Jody Ryan added three points to see the side’s level for the first time in the game, with eight minutes remaining in the half. A minute later we were reduced to 14 men and Lattin/Aherlow immediately capitalised as Cathal Dillon pointed from play before Lattin/Cullen Gaels scored the first goal of the game. Seamus Grogan who had gone into the Gaels full forward line caught a ball about 10 yards from the end-line, taking on the defence he ran towards goal, his hand pass just falling in front of Mark Russell who sent the ball crashing to the top of the net. Both sides swapped points after this to leave the half time score 1-8 to 0-7 in favour of Lattin/Cullen Gaels.

We came out in determined fashion and within four minutes of the restart the game was level. Paudie Carey picked up the sliotar after forcing a turnover from the Gaels defence and crashed the ball to the net. Patrick Carey added a point from a place ball and the sides were level for the second time in the game. Cathal Dillon quickly restored Lattin/Cullen Gaels advantage but this was again cancelled out by a Patrick Carey free. The sides were now level for the third time in the game. With ten minutes gone in the half Jody Ryan pointed from a free to put us ahead for the first time in the game and he added to their lead moments later. The game was now starting to flow and Seamus Grogan responded with a point for The Gaels. Cathal Dillon then drew the sides level for the fourth time with a pointed free before Cathal O’Shea restored their advantage heading towards the final quarter. When Brian Carey pointed there was ten minutes left and the sides were now level for a fifth time. Sean Dillon and Cathal O’Shea added two points for Lattin/Cullen Gaels with five minutes left on the clock. Darragh Kennedy then reduced the deficit to one point when he added a point from play. The game continued with every ball now fiercely contested. The extra man was now being used to good effect by Gaels Sean Dillon and Seamus Grogan pointed to put the Gaels three points up heading towards stoppage time but Patrick Carey pointed in injury time to leave just two between the sides again. We fought to the end and Sean Ryan saw a rasping shot come back off the crossbar but Thomas Hanly cleared down field to Cathal Dillon who pointed for the Gaels to rapturous cheers from their supporters as they advanced to the semis finals for a re-match with Cashel KC on a final score of 1-17 to 1-14.
