Over 380 of Irish Hockeys population gathered in the Burlington hotel on Saturday May 29th for the most prestigious night of the hockey season.
The evening was not only attended by Ireland’s top hockey players. RTE’s Darragh Maloney (MC for the night), Bernard Dunne (guest speaker for the evening), and the minister for the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Mary Hanafin, were also among the 380 guests in attendance on the night.
There were four nominees shortlisted from the Connacht region, namely
Greenfields Dora Gorman for U18 Female Player of the year
Coláiste Iognáid for School of the Year
Knocknacarra’s Ciaran Delaney for Volunteer of the Year
Galway’s Richard Malone for U18 Coach of the Year
A large group travelled from the West to support the nominees, & in the end, it was Ciaran Delaney who carried home the award for Volunteer of the Year.

This was a well-deserved win for a man who, almost single-handedly, has run Knocknacarra Hockey Club for the past 10 years. The partying continued well into the early hours.
