Irish Junior Cup

November 8, 2018

Greenfields  1 – 2  Old Alex

Hard luck to Greenfields Irish Junior Cup team who lost out to Alex today in rainy, treacherous conditions in Dublin. A short corner strike from Sinead Minihan put Greenfields ahead and Greenfields led at half time.

Greenfields should have been 2 ahead after a great finish by Rebecca Gilligan, however following questioning by the Alex captain the umpire deemed it disallowed due to speculation that the ball was not stopped before the free was taken.

Alex then equalised through a goal, which according to the Greenfields defence was not touched by the Alex forward in the circle. The umpires decision however went in favour of Alex and the match went to extra time silver Goal.

Much to the disappointment of the young Greenfields team Alex found the back of the net with 10 seconds remaining in the first half of extra time. Sadly, this saw Greenfields exit the competition.

Well done to the girls for a great performance in difficult conditions.
