John Mountney says that he joined Dundalk to “push on in his career”, after he completed his move from Mervue United on Monday morning.
The 18-year-old, a Republic of Ireland underage international, put pen to paper on a one-year deal at Oriel Park, as Seán McCaffrey finally landed the youngster following a lengthy pursuit.
Mountney’s rise to the Premier Division comes under 12 months after he made his League of Ireland debut with Mervue.
And having made steady progress through the ranks, the Mayo native is looking to make further strides in the season ahead.
“I’m very happy to get everything sorted and to come to Dundalk,” Mountney told dundalkfc.com.
“Seán first rang me in late November or early December and asked me would I be interested in coming here if he got the job.
“I knew straight away that it would be a great opportunity to come over here, try to break into a team in a higher division and try to push on.”
