Well done to the 17 lads who made the long journey to Myshall on Wednesday evening and battled all the way to the end against a lively young Tinryland team. Clonmore had the best of the first half but kicked a lot of wides & missed a couple of goal chances. All we had to show for our domination was three points from Mark A Byrne (2) and Andrew Byrne to leave the score at half-time at 0-3 apiece.
Points from Brian Keogh and JP Doyle put us 0-5 to 0-4 ahead on 35mins and things were looking up. But then Tinryland took control and scored 1-5 to put them 1-9 to 0-6 ahead on 46mins. JP Doyle scored a couple of good points for Clonmore but Tinryland struck again for a second goal on 52mins to give them an unassailable lead of 2-10 to 0-7.
A cracking goal from 25 yards by the outstanding John McGrath sparked a late comeback and points by Mark A Byrne and John McGrath reduced the arrears to four points but time ran out and the game ended with Tinryland winning by 2-10 to 1-9.
Clonmore were best served by Joe Hickey , Ger Doyle and the evergreen Colin Doyle in defence, Andrew Byrne and John McGrath at midfield, JP Doyle and the hard working Adam Byrne in attack.
Team: Paddy Byrne, Ger Doyle, Clive Lambe, Joe Hickey, Alan Byrne, Colin Doyle, Martin Doyle, John McGrath (1-1), Andrew Byrne (0-1), Adam Byrne, JP Doyle (0-3), Mark A Byrne (0-3, 1f), Fergal Kavanagh, Brian Keogh (0-1), Brian Kelly.
