Fr. Murphy’s
produced an excellent display in the Junior Camogie Championship on Saturday
last to reach the semi finals of the competition by beating Bros. Pearse on a
scoreline of 3-03 to 1-03. Having been tied with Bros. Pearse on points in the
group phase, it was decided that the teams should play to determine who would
progress.
Fielding with
only 10 players against a strong Bros. Pearse 12, the girls in purple and gold
always had their work cut out for them. Bros. Pearse got off the mark first
with an early point but Fr. Murphy’s did not give up and entered half time a
point down.
They came out
in the second half even stronger and the midfield duo of Hannah Noonan and
Claire Towey ran riot around the pitch. Anne Marie Keogh, Edel Byrne and Jade
O’Neill kept a tight full back line, while further up the pitch Sinead Kirk and
Emma Taylor got their names on the score sheet. At times it was easy forget
that Fr. Murphy’s were two players short.
The next outing
for the junior team is Saturday 11th July in the championship semi
finals when they face Green Isle. The other semi final sees Croydon and Tara
battle it out for a place in the final.
