Our junior Ladies team headed to New Inn yesterday afternoon to play in the Tipperary Ladies Junior B final vs Moyne Templetuohy Lgfa, a team that our club had never beaten at any grade up to yesterday. Having come up from the junior C ranks last year, our junior ladies team have improved steadily all year and knew they had nothing to loose by competing in the B final & had every belief in themselves that a victory was well within their grasp.
The opening few minutes of the game were defining, with two consecutive point blank saves by our fantastic goalkeeper Dearbhla Morrissey – these saves were the ultimate catalyst to say the St. Patrick’s girls meant business and were not going to come away empty handed! Throughout the first half the St. Patrick’s girls played some great football and defended furiously putting huge pressure on the Moyne forwards. The sweeping runs from deep out the field by Sarah Mockler and Niamh Martin were superb and up front the scores started to come, with excellent goals from the inside forwards Caoimhe Ryan & Niamh Keane and points by Niamh Martin and Leanne Murphy. By the half time whistle St. Patrick’s had a healthy lead of 2.5 and had kept Moyne Templetuohy scoreless.
The second half however was a much different affair, Moyne Templetuohy upped their workrate and slowly but surely, they started to get right back into the game with a number of points. St. Patricks kept the scoreboard ticking over with a second great goal by Caoimhe Ryan and within minutes of Angela McGuigan arriving on the field, she too found the back of the Moyne Templetuohy net. All dues and respect to Moyne Templetuohy they kept their best performance of the game to the final ten minutes and scored two goals in quick succession, to bring themselves back into the game. The last five minutes were pretty frantic but the St. Patricks players held their nerve, got the ball worked up the field, with player of match Caoimhe Ryan clinically executing two wonderful points from play, to leave St. Patrick’s running out winners on a scoreline of St. Patrick’s 4.8 Moyne Templetuohy 2.6.

The junior ladies team can’t thank team manager Michael Moroney & son Sean and team selector Helen Hogan enough, with over 50 training sessions from the start of February, the commitment they have given and work they have done for this team has been immense. To win the Junior B county title in the first year at the grade can directly be attributed to their leadership, motivation and their ultimate belief in this group of girls. Huge thanks also to Paula Ryan, who is such a reassurance pitchside doing first aid for the team and who never missed a match all year. To our wonderful club committee and in particular our chairwoman Siobhán Vaughan, who keep the club running so efficiently behind the scenes and to all committee members who helped out with the post match refreshments and decorations🎉. Acknowledgement also to our main sponsor Frances O’Hanlon Ltd, your jerseys have proven to be extremely lucky and we again thank you for your generous sponsorship. To the men’s club Naomh Padraig – thank you for your ongoing support and use of facilities & hope that you can match us with some silverware before the year is out 🖤💛
To the many parents, family members and supporters who came to New Inn to support the team yesterday, a huge thanks!! We would also like to thank Patricia and Thatch Fitzgerald for facilitating our post match celebrations, last night. Last but not least a big shout out to the wonderful panel of 29 players who gave it their all yesterday and who committed to training and games throughout the year – the hard work paid off 😊, in particular special mention to Sarah Mockler who had to forgo the third night of Electric Picnic and travelled back yesterday morning to play the final, that is commitment of a special kind!! Also, to our 16th player Gráinne Fennelly who unfortunately could not be with us yesterday but was in constant contact with the team. Best wishes to all the girls who are on the under 19 team for their forthcoming championship which kicks off next Sunday 09th of September and to all those girls starting college this week!
