Junior Ladies win Junior C County Final

November 7, 2018

Pride of place, goes to our junior ladies team who after 8 years of trying and 4 previous county final defeats finally got over the line last Monday evening in Templetuohy and won out the Junior C championship beating Silvermines on a scoreline of 2.13 to 2.6.It was a tough physical battle and in fairness to Silvermines they put it up to the St. Pats ladies for long parts of the game and itwas only really in the last five minutes where St. Patrick's pulled away. There were some fantastic performances by the St. Patrick’s ladies all over the field. In goals, Sadhbh Morrissey was solid throughout and pulled off a number of good saves. In defence, the backs worked collectively as a unit, with Sarah Walton and Maria McGrath having outstanding performances throughout the 60 minutes. The midfield partnership of Sarah Mockler and Aileen Kelly worked so incredibly hard throughout the game and most have covered every blade of grass in Templetuohy and up front all the forwards worked tirelessly also, with Caoimhe Ryan and Niamh Keane scoring most of the St. Patrick’s 2.13 tally. The balance of younger girls and those with experience, really complemented one another and was a winning combination on the day!
Team on the day: Sadhbh Morrissey, Aileen Sugrue, Sarah Walton, Eadhaoin Wilson, Abbie Maher, Maria McGrath, Aoife Doheny, Sarah Mockler and Aileen Kelly (0.1), Eimear Boland, Caoimhe Ryan (0.8), Leanne Murphy, Siobhan Vaughan, Niamh Keane (2.4) and Úna O’Brien. Subs: Orlaith O’Hanlon for Siobhan Vaughan, Ciara Fitzgerald for Eadhaoin Wilson, Olivia Noonan for Aileen Kelly, Sarah Sugrue, Joelle Mahoney, Emily Ruttle, Chloe Griffin and Caoimhe McMenamin.

Huge credit and thanks go to Michael Moroney team manager and Helen Hogan team selector for all their hard work and efforts over the past few months, to get the junior ladies team to this point and also to Paula Ryan who was always on hand to assist with first aid. The St. Patrick’s Ladies Junior team would like to sincerely thank the following local businesses for their support of new shorts and socks for the county final: Siobhan and Micheal Maher – Micheal Maher Building and Construction Services Ltd and Ned Morris – Morris Quarries Ltd and again to Frances O’Hanlon of FOH Financial Ltd who sponsored a new set of junior ladies jerseys earlier this year.
