Kingscourt’s disappointing year at senior level was mirrored by an equally lack lustre campaign in Division 4. Four victories from ten left the previous reserve league champions lying just two points above the drop zone in tenth position.
The stars reserve team got off to flying start with a seventeen point victory over Drumalee in O Raghallaigh Park on Saturday March 31st. This victory however was followed by a fifteen point defeat to Ballinagh. These two results were very typical of the Jekyll and Hyde type performances which left Kingscourt struggling for division status coming into their last game of the season. Further victories over Cuchullains, Mullahoran and a “walk over” gift from Lacken ensured that the reserve team would not suffer the same fate of the senior team.
The reserve championship was equally disappointing for Kingscourt with a defeat at the quarter final stage at home to Castlerahan after a victory over Denn in Crosskeys.
In their defence, however, the reserve team management had a difficult year as they endeavoured to field a team from a pool of players which had been used to plug the holes in an injury blighted senior team.
If end of year reports were to arrive through the door of the Kingscourt players each one would read the same…..Plenty of potential but must do better!
