Juniors enjoy League win over ballinager

November 8, 2018

Edenderry juniors were lucky to escape with a one point win after a very poor second half performance. The reds were nine points to the good at half time but managed just three points in the second half and were very fortunate to claim the two points.

The first ten minutes of the opening half was poor with Edenderry kicking numerous wides. They eventually got on the score sheet when Philip Farrell on ten minutes and Martin Keogh(2), eleventh and thirteenth minute gave them a three point lead. Sean Og Farrell then stretched Edenderry’s lead with a well taken goal. Martin Keogh added his third of the game in the twenty second minute before Ballinagar finally got off the mark in the twenty sixth minute.

Further scores from Sean Og Farrell(2) and David Farrell extended Edenderry’s lead to nine points at the half time break.

Half Time:
Edenderry 1-7 0-1 Ballinagar

Gary Blong pointed straight from the restart and Edenderry were cruising. Ballinagar scored two points in the sixth and eight minute before a Martin Keogh point in the eleventh minute after some great defending by Gary Blong.

Ballinagar then began to dominate proceedings and were winning all the kick-outs and breaking ball. They added two further points to leave seven between the sides. Philip Farrell scored his second of the game in twenty second minute and that turned out to be Edenderry’s last score of the game.

Between the twenty fifth and twenty eight minute Ballinagar hit 1-3 and in the last minute they scored a point to leave just one between the sides.

Luckily for the reds, time ran out and they managed to claim another brace of points.

Full Time:
Edenderry 1-10 1-9 Ballinagar

This is a game Edenderry should have won far more comfortably than they did and they will be disappointed in how they allowed Ballinagar back into the game.

Best on the day for Edenderry were Padriag Foy, Stephen Abbott and Andrew Forde.
