Juniors Galwegians 0 - 22 Corinthians

November 7, 2018

On a clear, crisp, perfect day for Rugby the Juniors delighted their loyal following with some enterprising and intelligent rugby. On a day when the pack was under some pressure at the set piece, it was the cool head of Kenny Diffenthal that really kept the visitors on the front foot. Also try machine Kieran Dolan was never going to be upstaged and chipped in with two well executed tries. Dave O Sullivan had a fine game at outside centre, and along with the back row of Barry McCann, Tadgh Linnane and Ray Fleming never let the ball carrier cross the advantage line. However this was not a day for individuals and singling out only a few players will not do justice to the team effort as a whole. As mentioned the scrum creaked under the pressure but scrum half Greg Faherty was well able to cope with the ball he received. The line outs were not their steady self and will have to be improved on but the moment the ball was in open play it was the men from Cloonacauneen that showed great composure and a hunger to dominate the contact area. It is a tribute to their eagerness as a team not to have conceded any points, especially if you consider Galwegians were hammering away at the line in the final stages of the game only to go home empty handed. The team are still second on the league table and with more performances like this; they may very well be in the shake up at the end of the season! Our next game is against Creggs on Sunday at 2.30pm in Corinthian Park which is the last league fixture before Christmas and all support would be appreciated.
