Memorial Mass.

A mass in memory of Donal O’Brien New York and Jimmy O’ Brien London, both late of Lisloran Cashel will be held in Knockavilla church on Saturday next at 7.30pm.Both brothers died in April. Donal died suddenly whilst visiting Jimmy in London , sadly Jimmy passed away a few days later after a long illness bravely borne. Both men are greatly missed by their families and all who knew them. Donal was one of the Kickham hurling greats, a brilliant goalkeeper, he won 1 west minor medal in 1957 and 2 West senior medals in 59 and 60. He also won a minor All Ireland in 1957 and 2 Senior All Irelands in 61 and 62 as well as a National League medal before emigrating to the USA . At his funeral in the USA the Kickham club provided a  Kickham crested flag and a goalkeeper’s jersey which were draped on his coffin. May Donal and Jimmy rest in peace.

KNOCKAVILLA COMMUNITY COUNCIL NOTES;
The Community Council would like to thank everyone who contributed so generously to our Church gate collections held recently in both churches. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Upcoming events.
The Community Council hopes to organise a leisure walk towards the end on July. This walk will commence at the Community hall and will take in some areas and points of historical interest around Knockavilla, and an informational talk will be given at these locations. The walk, which will be about 3 miles, will then end up back at the hall where refreshments will be served. A 5 euro participation fee will be collected which will go towards the development work planned in the hall. A similar walk is also planned for the Dundrum area in August. Further details will be available in the next few weeks.

The committee would like to hear from the public, any ideas or activities they would like to be organised in the hall over the winter months, to cater for both adults and children. The Council would be only too happy to provide the hall for any such events or classes which may be required. Please contact any committee member with your suggestions.

COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to Ben Loughman who won gold in the U/10 100 metres at the County Athletics Finals in Templemore on Sunday last. It was a great achievement, as the standard of competition was very  high. Ben will now go on to represent Tipperary in the National Finals in Athlone in August. Well done also to our other competitors who also; all ran very well.

DUNDRUM TIDY TOWNS
Dundrum tidy towns volunteers are still working hard two nights a week, judging is coming up soon so we would appeal to everyone to please try and keep the village litter free. We were very disappointed by the recent vandalism to our wall boxes and hanging baskets, we work very hard along with the FAS workers and the station road residents association who all do a great job to try and improve the village and its environs and we get very discouraged by this kind of behaviour. As it is criminal damage we would appeal to anyone with information to contact Tipperary Gardai on 062-51212 or any member of the Tidy Towns. Volunteers are still needed to give a hand, so if you have any spare time we meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm across from entrance to the Scout hall. Enjoy the summer and please keep Dundrum clean. Its your home place so please respect it.
