Senior Hurling.

Our senior hurlers travelled to Templederry on Saturday last to play Moneygall in the semifinal of the Seamus O’ Riain Cup. This was a cracking game of hurling and it was a game that was in doubt almost up to the final whistle. But our lads pulled out all the stops and were deserving winners on the score 3-17 to 3-15. We now meet Moycarkey Borris in the O’ Riain Cup final which will precede the County Senior hurling final in Semple Stadium which is fixed for the 16th of October. It is amazing how fast a season can turn around and it would be a great boost for the club to go one step further and win it out and we are all behind this great group and we wish them the very very best on the day. Team and scorers Patrick Ryan, Cathal Morrissey, Jason Loughman, Michael Shanahan, Damian Mc Grath, Eoin Carew, Brian Horgan, Patrick O’Brien (0-3, 0-1  free), David Butler (0-1),  Johnny Ryan (0-8, 0-4 frees), Daniel Breen, Daragh Browne, Paul O’Dwyer (1-3), Fergal Horgan (1-2), Padraig Slattery (1-0). Subs: Aidan Heney for Fergal Horgan at half time as Fergal was refereeing Co.Quarterfinal in Thurles. Patrick Ryan for Daragh Browne, Niall O’Brien for Padraig Slattery. We wish our clubmen Paul, Jason and Eoin the very best when they travel down under this week. We hope everything goes well for them and we look forward to seeing them back in the club colour’s in the Spring.

Sympathy.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Mrs Theresa O’ Dwyer and family Ballygriffin on the recent death of her beloved husband Liam. We also offer our condolences to his extended family relative’s neighbours and friends on their sad loss. In his youth Liam wore the black and amber of Kickham’s with pride and in later year years his children were to continue that tradition. Liam was also very involved in the setting up of Dundrum Athletic club in the early sixties. As a mark of respect to Liam and the O’Dwyer family the club provided a guard of honour in conjunction with the athletic club at his removal to Knockavilla Church . Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a anam.

Juvenile Club Notes.

U16 (B) West Hurling Champions.

Our U16 team contested the West U16B Final in Clonoulty on Saturday evening against Emly/Treacys . Both teams started strongly swapping points between them from play and frees. The Combo were first  to score a goal and this seemed to settle them but our boys fought on for every ball and went  in at the break trailing by a goal  1-06 to 0-06.  The second half started with the same intensity as the first with our lads increasing the pressure on the combo culminating in a goal coming from Fionn Hogan. The combo came back to lead again by a point with injury time approaching.  A major effort by all the team led to two more points to win the match by one single point.  This display was a great effort by all the panel and credit to the mentors for a great result. CONGRATULATIONS

The A`s had a good tough match which ended in a draw, whereas the B`s were easy winners of their match.  Well done to all teams and mentors for a good nights hurling.  The U8`s and U10`s are travelling to Boherlahan next Saturday morning for a Blitz, all to be there for 10 o`clock sharp.

Camogie Club notes

U6 & U/8 Camogie

Our U6 and U8 have come to an end for this season, well done to all the girls involved.

U/12 Camogie

The U/12 team was away again last Saturday in Ballycahill to Holycross/Ballycahill. We started very strong fighting for every ball and Lauran Horgan and Leah Gallagher scored two goals. We went in leading by those two goals. Holycross had the breeze in the second half and fought their way back to reduce our lead. Our girls were under a lot of pressure in this half and were relieved when Lauran scored her second goal, but Holycross leveled with minutes to go leaving it  a draw at the final whistle. Thanks to all who travelled to support the girls. Next match is away to Borrisleigh at 3.00 on Saturday next. Training for U12`s Wednesday evening. Team: Clara Walsh, Sinead Furlong, Sinead Ryan, Megan McCormack Ciara Ryan Capt.
