Our U/21 B footballers played Portroe in the Co. semi final in Borrisoleigh last week and after a great tussle emerged victorious on the score Kickhams 2-8 Portroe 1-8 Team :Dean Kelly ,Shane M Ryan ,Shane Heelan ,Danny Carberry ,Rory Heffernan ,Patrick O Brien (0-1), Johnny Ryan, David Butler (1-0),Gerry Horgan (0-1),Cathal Morrissey , John Griffey, Patrick Ryan(0-2), Niall O Brien (0-2), Sean Compton (0-2), Kenneth Horgan(1-0) Congratulations to all concerned. Isn’t it great to be in a Co. Final so early in the year, but would’nt it be even greater to go and win it.Our opponents Ballyporeen are said to be a strong team , but it will be all about who performs on the day. Check fixtures list in Nationalist for confirmation of date etc. See match report in the Nationalist.
Senior Hurling.
Our senior hurlers travelled to NewInn on Sunday evening last to play Cashel King Cormac’s in the first round of the West championship. Unfortunately despite a bright start we did not manage to compete in key positions around the field with a very eager Cashel team and though we kept in touch up until the final stages of the game, we were beaten on the score 0-19 to 0-14. Team : Patrick Ryan, Sean Keogh, Jason Loughman, Brian Horgan, Nigel Hayes, Eoin Carew, Michael Shanahan(Capt), Tommy Comerford (0-6 all frees), Shane Morrissey, Patrick O’Brien, Damian Mc Grath, Peter Comerford (0-4,0-2 frees), Johnny Ryan, Dan Breen (0-1), Paul O’Dwyer(0-2), Subs used :David Butler(0-1) for Shane Morrissey, Cathal Morrissey for Tommy Comerford, Patrick Ryan for Patrick O’Brien. We have a big game coming up in the next round against Eire Og on Sunday next @3pm in Cappawhite and given our opponents display in their victory over Clonoulty in their first round game a major improvement from all our players will be needed if we are to harbour ambitions of getting a victory from the game. But we are sure that our supporters will travel in large numbers and hopefully our players will respond. See match report in the Nationalist.
Junior Co League.
Our junior’s kept the hurling flag flying with victory over Cashel King Cormac’s in the Co League in Leahy Park Cashel on Saturday evening last. This was their second victory in as many games and are looking good for a play off place. Unfortunately I could not be there so I only know the result which was Kickhams 1-22 Cashel 3-12, a great game by all accounts and the lads did themselves proud on the night, well done to all concerned.
Minor (B) football.
Afterlo sing on the previous Wednesday night our Minors knew a win over neighbours Eire Og Annacarty would keep them in line for a semi final berth. Straight from the throw in they set about their task and led at the break on the score 1-8 to 0-0. The second half saw Kickhams take their scores where, as in the first half, Eire Og missed scoreable chances which would have made the game much closer. The final whistle saw Kickhams winners on the score 1-15 to 0-4. Team and subs used : Conor Moore, David Ryan, Oisin Slattery, Stephen Griffey, Killian Loughman, Eoin Carew, Thomas Hayes, Patrick Ryan(0-3), Dean Thompson(0-3), Fionn Hogan, Sean Compton(0-4), Brendan Griffin(0-1), Evan Hickey, Walter O’Carroll(0-2), Conor Butler (1-2), Subs used Andre McCloud for Sean Compton(inj), Paddy Tuohy for Fionn Hogan (inj) Alex Leibherr for Patrick Ryan.
Memberships.
We are again asking all players, mentors and supporters to please pay up their membership fees for this year. The day to day running of any club in these times is an onerous one and surely the very least that should be done by indiduals is to pay their membership to help maintain the status quo. Those players that have been injured over the years can testify how important it is to be insured, especially when surgical intervention is necessary. Please contact Margaret Hayes, Michael Shanahan, Richard Moloney or any Club Officer ASAP. Thank you.
