U/21(B) Football

Pride of place this week goes to our U/21 footballers who had a great win over Golden Kilfeacle in the West final  in New Inn on Saturday last. Despite a torrential downpour before throw in which caused soft under foot conditions, this was a cracker of a game in which both teams gave their  all for their Parishes. Kickhams trailed at the break by 0-6 to 0-5. The second half was an equally close game with Golden edging a few points ahead with ten minutes left , but our lads did not give up and fought back to level the game at the end of normal time on the score 0-9 to 0-9.Extra time was more of the same but in the second half our lads pulled away to deserevdly win on the score 1-14 to 0-13. Well done to all concerned on  a  fantastic victory. Team and scorers : Dean Kelly, Danny Carberry, Shane Heelan, Shane Martin Ryan, Rory Heffernan, Patrick O’Brien (0-1), Kevin Griffey(capt), Gerry Horgan (0-6), David Butler(0-4), Johnny Ryan, John Griffey, Cathal Morrissey, Niall O’Brien, Eoin Carew, Patrick Ryan(0-3), Subs used Jamie Quinn, Kenneth Horgan, Dean Thompson(1-0). Minor(B) Football

Kickhams played Emly/Sean Treacys  in this first round  championship game in Dundrum on Wednesday last. From the throw in both teams showed that they were well able to play the game and an even encounter was expected, the first half saw a real see saw battle for supremacy and even though Kickhams looked to be pulling away mid ways through , the combo came storming back and went in at  the break leading on the score 1-6 to 1-3, indeed you would have said that they looked the most likely winners at that stage. The second half was however a different story, the Kickhams lads were out of the blocks much quicker and had drawn level within ten minutes, positional changes had began to work very well and players were beginning to show for the ball all around the field. The Combo on the other hand were being harried and chased whenever they were in possession and as a result were forced into rushed shots and passes which went wide or were intercepted by the Kickhams players. It was a reflection of all this pressure that the Combo failed to raise a flag in the second period whilst Kickhams added three more points to emerge victorious on the score 1-9 to 1-6, Kickhams team and scorers Conor Moore, Luke Heffernan, Oisin Slattery, Thomas Hayes, Killian Loughman, Eoin Carew, Stephen Griffey, Michael Slattery, Patrick Ryan(0-3), Brendan Ryan, Sean Compton (0-1), Walter O’Carroll, Conor Butler (0-1), Dean Thpmpson (0-3), David Ryan (1-0) Sub: Brendan Griffin for Sean Compton.

Memberships.

We are again asking all players, mentors and supporters to please pay up their membership fees for this year. The day to day running of any club in these times is an onerous one and surely the very least that should be done by indiduals is to pay their membership to help maintain the status quo. Those players that have been injured over the years can testify how important it is to be insured, especially when surgical intervention is necessary. Please contact Margaret Hayes, Michael Shanahan, Richard Moloney or any Club Officer ASAP. Thank you.
