Niall Mellon thanks.

On behalf of ourselves and The Niall Mellon Township trust Nigel Hayes, Paul O Dwyer, Conor Horan and Michael Breen would like to thank everybody and anybody who supported our fundraising campaign over the last 18 months. We have finally reached our goal of 20,000 euro through discos, table quizzes, bag packing, fancy dress parties and bingo. Thanks to the Venue, the Golden Vale and Knockavilla Community Council for use of their facilities. Thanks to all the local businnes who supported us by donating many prizes for raffles. Thanks also to the people who helped out with bag packing, decorataions and setting up at the various locations. Finally thanks to everybody who attended our events. We hope that you enjoyed them all. Names are too numerous to mention so thanks again. We’ll do our best out there and represent the parish well.

The Niall Mellon Township Trust was started in 2002. The Trust aims is to build quality social housing for impoverished families living in shacks in the townships of South Africa. The charity operates a year round house building programme. It is the largest charity provider of quality social housing in South Africa. Since the charity first started it has built 15,000 homes and that figure continues to grow. 10,000 volunteers have joined over the last 7 years, 6,500 from Ireland and 3,500 from South Africa. In 2009 a skills development programme was founded, training young people from the townships in a wide range of construction disciplines. For more information visit
