Kilmainhamwood overcame local rivals Nobber in an entertaining game on Sunday afternoon, which was played in the Wood, to get Colm Kane’s tenure as manager off to a perfect start.
The home team started off brightly scoring a point from Paddy Carolan and a goal from a free from Stephen Kiernan. Nobber then got off the mark from a free. Former county player Ray Magee then opened his account for the day from a free. Shortly after this score the Wood lost Ray Madden to injury.
Carolan then got another point from play. Nobber then responded with a free and a point from play to leave them trailing by 3 points. Magee added another point from a free. Nobber responded with another pointed free. Just before the end of the half the wood got their second goal ot the game through Magee.
The score at half time was 2-04 to 0-04.
The second half started off brightly for Nobber and they got a pointed free. Magee then scored a point from play to still leave six points between them. Nobber then scored two points to leave four points between them. Carolan then slotted over another score. Nobber were pouring forward to this stage and tagged on two more scores. The Wood scored there last point of the day from half back Phillip Moran. Nobber Responded with two more scores to leave just two points in the game with the game near over. On a breakaway attack Kernan fisted his second goal of the game to finish the game off with little time remaining on the clock.
