Junior Hurling
For the second game in a row our concession of goals proved costly as we fell to our third defeat in the Junior Hurling Championship against Kilgobnet on Friday evening last. On a beautiful evening for hurling in Bushy Park we lined out minus the services of county minor Kieran Power as well as a number of other players through injury. We got off to the worst possible start as within 30 seconds of the throw in Kilgobnet opened the scoring with their first goal of the game. They then followed this up with a pointed free and another goal to leave us 7 points down with the game only 5 minutes old. An Alan Quinn free settled Kilrossanty and we began to assert more control on the exchanges around the middle of the field as the first half went on. Paul Keating goaled to reduce the gap to 3 points midway through the half but unfortunately Tommy Prendergast sustained a hand injury in the process of the move and he was forced to leave the field. Both sides were guilty of wasting scoring chances in the first half with Kilrossanty shooting some bad wides and Paul Whyte denying Kilgobnet at the other end to ensure the deficit remained at 3 points at the break after Joey Veale and Alan Quinn had further points for Kilrossanty either side of two Kilgobnet scores. The second half started in much the same manner as the first with Kilgobnet taking a grip of the game, once again hitting the net twice in quick succession to seemingly put the game out of our reach. Joey Veale replied for Kilrossanty with a goal from a well struck 21 yard free and Alan Quinn pointed a placed ball to leave 5 points between the teams. At this point there was over 15 minutes still to be played but panic began to set into the Kilrossanty play as a lot of possession was wasted through shooting for goals when points may have been sufficient. Points were then exchanged by either side with Eoin Houlihan raising the white flag for us. The game was then put to bed with a little over 5 minutes to play as Kilgobnet netted their fifth goal of the game. Kilrossanty continued to battle on though, and Joey Veale was unlucky to see another close range free deflected over for a point. The late drama of this fixture last year was not to be repeated however and Kilgobnet eventually ran out 8 point winners on a score line of 5-7 to 2-8
