U21 FOOTBALL SPONSORED BY MICILINS BAR
Kilrossanty are Champions.  On Sunday night last we played Portlaw in
the co final at the Fraher field this proved to be our hardest test so
far.  We started the game with a point from Mossey Young after 5 mins
to settle the nerves this was followed by a Pat Cunningham point on
the 13th min Portlaw then opened there scoreing with a point.  Paul
Whyte won a good ball and finished it to the back of the net after
18mins which was followed by a well taken point from N Walsh on the
21st min to gave us a 1.3 to 1 point lead.  Portlaw had a strong 5 min
spell in which they scored a goal and 2 points to make a draw of the
game.  Kilrossantys Owen Houlihan injured his knee and had to be taken
off which forced the selectors to make a few switches and placed Jack
Merriott wing back which worked out well.  Paul Whyte on 30 min
Patrick Cunningham 31 & 32 min Alan Quinn 32 min and another Paul
Whyte pt saw us reaching half time with a five pt lead.  In the second
half just as the first we started well with a Alan Quinn pt after 1min
Portlaw replyed with a pt 2 mins later Paul Whyte then added another
pt to bring his tally to 1.3 on 5mins.  Portlaw then put us under
fierce pressure over a 6 min spell in which they scored 5 points with
out reply to leave only a pt between us.  From the 15th min to the
28min portlaw came up the field with wave after wave of attacks but
the lads batteled hard and kept Portlaw from scoring while at the same
time were trying to set up there own attacks.  This payed off on the
28min when Kevin Keating who came on as a sub for the injured Owen
Houlihan got on the ball in front of the goal and sent the ball to the
net this was a killer blow for portlaw and a huge boost for us but yet
the game was not over and portlaw piled on the pressure and only for
some great saves from Dwane in goal and our defenders they thankfully
held on for a great win on the score of Kilrossanty 2.10 Portlaw 1.9.
In goal Dwane was on top form while the defence had a great game our
midfield gave all they had and our forwards never gave up so well done
ye deserve it.  The panal was (Dwayne Kirwan Captain)(Eoin
