Ladies Club Notes For The Week.

November 8, 2018

Congratulations to our club girls Grace Kearney and Eleanor Ahern who were both part of the Cork Senior ladies panel on Saturday last in Banagher when they beat Monaghan in the National League semi-final  1-20 to 9 pts .Grace was introduced as a sub for twenty minutes of the second half and although she didn’t score was involved in a few moves that resulted in scores. The league final against Galway is fixed for the 8th May no venue or time yet but we would hope that the two girls will get plenty of local support .It is a great honour for the club to see two of our girls part of our senior county team.

Congratulations to our two u16 girls Jennifer Barry and Jennifer Cahill who beat Tipperary in the Munster semi-final 6-13 to 2-1 in front of their home supporters in Rathcormac on Sunday last. Jennifer Cahill was introduced 5 mins into the second half and played her part as well.A big thank you to everyone who helped out in anyway with the catering on Sunday it was really appreciated by everyone, and to the men who helped out with the dressing rooms a big thank you also.

Tuesday, April 20. U14 Football.

Bride Rovers 5-16           Watergrasshill 3-2.  .

Bride Rovers U14’s closed out the 2010 league section in high-scoring fashion on Tuesday, April 20 when they defeated Watergrasshill 5-16 to 3-2 at Pynes field. Watergrasshill were weakened by fielding only 13 players and this had a large impact especially in the second half. Rovers actually started quite slowly, missing some scoring opportunities, and Watergrasshilll scored a couple of early goals to give them a head-start. However, Rovers gradually got to grips with the game and scored a succession of points plus one goal from Patricia O’Sullivan to give us a 4 point half-time lead, 1-10 to 3-0. The disparity in numbers inevitably told in the second half and Rovers scored four more goals to run out comfortable winners. We now look forward to the play-off stages of the league.

Match Panel : Madison Parle, Cliona Murphy, Marion Walsh, Dayna Connolly, Aoife O Riordan, Lauren Friel, Margaret Kearney, Patricia O Sullivan (3-2), Clare Murphy (0-1), Katie O Connor (0-3), Maeve Ahern (1-3), Karen Sheehan (0-2), Meg Kelliher (1-0), Eva O Leary (0-2),  Aine Cashman (0-3), Laura Pratt, Elaine Culloty, Aoife Howard, Grainne Noonan.

Thursday, April 22. Ladies Football U12 East Cork League.

Lisgoold           0-5        Bride Rovers 4-6.

Bride Rovers U12 Lions team bounced back from defeat in their previous game to win away to Lisgoold on Thursday, Apr 22.  Lisgoold presented the usual tough challenge but first half scores from Grace Culloty (1-1), Arianne O Flynn (1-0) and Ciara White (0-1) set us on the way to victory giving us a half-time lead of 2-2 to 0-1. We were especially grateful to Arianne and Ciara who answered a late call-up for this game and responded with very important scores. Lisgoold had their moments too but strong defending from our backs restricted their scoring, with Nicola Murphy making some important clearances and Niamh Murphy giving an exhibition of blocking down.

Lisgoold added to their score in the second half but an early long-range goal from Grainne Noonan, almost from the restart, took a lot of the pressure off the Rovers. Madison Parle kept a clean sheet with some fine saves during this period also and Grace Culloty completed our scoring with a further 1-4.

Match Panel : Madison Parle, Aoife Howard, Maria O Sullivan, Nicola Murphy, Aoife Deasy, Niamh Murphy, Vivienne Cowman, Grainne Noonan, Laura Quirke (Capt.), Shauna O Connell, Grace Culloty (2-5), Selena Cotter, Jessica Howard, Arianne O Flynn (1-0), Ciara White (0-1).

Friday, April 23. Ladies Football U12 East Cork League

Bride Rovers 0-7           Fermoy 3-4

Bride Rovers U12 Tigers team enjoyed another good performance in Pynes on Friday April 23. We managed as many scores over the game as the opposition but couldn’t match them for goals unfortunately. Vivienne Cowman was in scoring form with 0-4, as was Rebecca O’Brien (0-2) and Emma Hazelwood (0-1). One of Rebecca’s points was particularly well worked with a great lay-off from Michaela Tobin. The backs were in good form too especially in the second half when they kept Fermoy scoreless. Mairead O Leary made quite a difference when switched to full-back from goalkeeper in this period while Arianne O Flynn was busy as ever playing her second game in as many nights.

Match Panel : Mairead O Leary, Nicola Murphy, Shauna O Connell, Olivia O Sullivan, Emma Barry, Emily Larkin, Vivienne Cowman, Arianne O Flynn, Emma Hazelwood, Sophie Quirke, Rebecca O Brien, Ciara Whyte, Michaela Tobin.

Sunday, Apr 25. U14 Camogie.

Carrigtwohill 7-4             Bride Rovers 2-2

Carrigtwohill were too strong for Rovers’ U14 camogie team on Sunday Apr 25, defeating us 7-4 to 2-2 on their own ground.  We found scores hard to come by in the opening half with a solitary point from Katie Connor our only reward, and leaving us 5-3 to 0-1 behind at half time. The second half showed an improvement however, with our backs working hard right to the end, and a further 1-1 from Katie and a well-deserved goal from Patricia O Sullivan put a better gloss on the scoreline.

Match Panel : Karen Sheehan , Madison Parle, Cliona Murphy, Dayna Connolly, Lauren Friel, Aine Cashman, Margaret Kearney, Patricia O Sullivan, Katie O Connor, Meg Kelliher, Maeve Ahern,  Laura Pratt, Aoife Howard, Grainne Noonan.
