Bride rovers Ladies football &Camogie club

Cork 4-9 Kerry 2-12

What a proud day for the loyal Bride rovers supporters who made the journey to Fitzgerald’s stadium Killarney on Saturday last to support our own Jennifer Barry who lined out in the no 7 jersey for the Cork u16 ladies football team in the Munster final against Kerry. A Munster final is a big occasion for any player and to play it in such a prestigious venue made it all the better, it was such a pity that the weather wasn’t in their favour it rained for the whole game. This is Jennifer’s third year in the Cork set up , Kerry have been  a thorn in their side  denying them Munster honours for the past two years  and beating them in the All-Ireland u14 semi final as well last year  ,Cork having come through the back door system.

Having played Kerry in the qualifying rounds earlier in the season in Ballincollig and defeating them gave Cork a psychological boost going into this game ,the belief was there with the girls that they could finally overcome them  Kerry started the strongest but Cork soon came into the game and from a supporters point of view it was a thrilling game for 60 minutes with the title swinging in either direction to the final whistle .When Kerry equalised in injury time we thought  a draw was on the cards but a never say die Cork burst  out of defence and  in some great passing movements had the ball  in the back of the Kerry net to scenes of delight among the Cork supporters up in the stand. A quick kick out saw Cork gain procession and score a great point to insure victory .Such scenes of delight among the supporters  it was the first medal for a lot of these girls  who thoroughly deserved it and none other than our own Jennifer who played a mighty game in the wing back position .Jennifer  is a great ambassador for her club and county and is such an unassuming player shying away from any of the limelight preferring to do her talking on the pitch ,but to see the smile on her face in Killarney last Saturday was such a joy .congratulations Jen from everyone in the club  you well deserve it and to Mick and May   Jennifer’s parents  a proud day for you too.
