Killala 1-7 Mayo Gaels 0-9

The intermediate team began their division 1D league campaign away to Killala on Sunday with a one point defeat. The final score was 1-7 to 0-9.

Playing with the aid of a strong breeze Killala started the brighter with three points, all from softly awarded frees. The Gaels replied to draw level through two Jonathan Griffin frees and a fine Damien Quinn point from play. Killala started to dominate and hit three points from play before to leave the half time scores 0-6 to 0-3 in favour of the home side.

Killala got a dream start to the second half with a well worked goal to push them six points clear. The Gaels showed their character and started to dominate scoring the next five points. Jonathan Morrin showed his class kicking three in a row from play. Jonathan Griffin added another two, one from play and one from a free. Killala again benefited from another soft free to push them two clear. Jonathan Morrin added another point from play to leave the minimum between the sides. Despite their best efforts the Gaels could not find a deserved equaliser.
