DEATHS
The death took place early in the month of Sr. Margaret Mary Duggan, formerly Teresa Duggan, Brownhall.  Sympathy is extended to her brothers Jarlath Duggan, Cullentragh, Willie Duggan, Mayo Abbey and her sister-in-law Mary Duggan, Brownhall. The death also took place of Kathleen Glynn, Towerhill, Ballyglass. Formerly. Kathleen Killeen, Knockroe. Sympathy is extended to her brother Tom, Knockroe and his family.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT
Mayo Abbey Active Retirement meets every second Friday. Dinners for the elderly are served every Friday at 1-00 p.m.  Anyone not needing dinner but interested in taking part in the Active Retirement afternoons can come in at 2-00p.m.   Community bus collects members for dinner and returns them home after 3-00p.m. 
ACTIVE RETIREMENT BOOK LAUNCH ON NOVEMBER 25
Mayo Abbey Active Retirement is publishing a book of stories written by its members. The launch takes place on Tuesday evening November 25th at 7-30 in Mayo Abbey centre.   Doors open at 7-00p.m. Followed by a night of music and dancing. It will be launched by Ger Delaney, (South Mayo Family Research Centre).  Members spent the summer writing their stories. The book has now gone to the printers. 
Secretary Catherine Gibbons said, “This is our most adventures project yet. We were supported by ¬The Community Foundation for Ireland to fund a facilitator to motivate our members. We were lucky to get Bettina Peterseil who met with the members and guided them in ideas to write about.  Mayo County Library and local sponsors have contributed to the publication costs”.
Out of about 50 members 20 have wrote for this book. The book contains features from the schooldays of era gone by.  It will also give younger people an idea of the times their grandparents grew up in, and a lifestyle so far removed from to-days.   There is an open invitation to parishioners to attend and support the active retirement members who are the authors of this book. 
NEW WATER SCHEME
Work will be commencing on the Mayo Abbey Village group water scheme on Tuesday November 18. Contractors for the scheme are Winters Contractors, Belmullet. The contracts were signed at a well attended meeting of the committees of the four old schemes (Mayo Abbey, Cullentragh/Knockroe, Portagh/Monard, Currykirwan) who have amalgamated to make up the new scheme.
CARD GAME
The Mayo Abbey Annual card game is on Friday December 12 in the Mayo Abbey centre. Starting at 9-00p.m.  All card players please note.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF NEW CHILDCARE CENTRE
Another milestone in the development of Mayo Abbey takes place on Friday December 5th  with the official opening of ‘Abbey Tots’ childcare centre.  This ceremony will be performed by Barry Andrews T.D. Minister for Children. This evening marks the end result of seven years planning. 
Mayo Abbey Community Childcare Services have been in operation since 2000, operating from rented facilities until this building was completed last March.  Currently offering full day care for Babies & Toddlers with Pre-school and Afterschool service.  The service has been awarded’ Certification for the Effective Early Learning Programme’, a quality award for Childcare, which monitors all aspects of the service from management to Children’s daily programmes. All are welcome to this opening which starts at 4.45p.m.
LIMITED PLACES
Tickets are now on sale for the Mayo Abbey Active Retirement annual dinner which takes place on Sunday December 7th in Mayo Abbey resource centre. Doors open 1-00, Dinner 2-00. Tickets €25, Music by the Coasters from Louisburgh. With great local interest for this annual event as it is a great days entertainment.  It is important that those needing tickets contact Mayo Abbey centre or a committee member as soon as possible as place are limited.  Closing date for tickets is Sunday November 30th. 
MICHAEL AND KATHLEEN
Michael and Kathleen Vahey and Helen Murphy thank most sincerely all who supported their recent auction in Byrnes, Mayo Abbey.  Michael and Kathleen Vahey and Helen Murphy are travelling to South Africa this weekend as part of the Nial Mellon team. Over 2,000 workers will work in Capetown for one-week building in the region of 250 houses.  Their presence is looked forward to each year by the inhabitants of the townships. We wish them the best of luck in their venture… With the temperature over 30 Celsius at all times we expect them all to return with great tans. 
DEATH
We mourn the passing of two ladies to their eternal reward.   Both were held in great esteem by all who knew them. The death took place of Minnie Finn, Facefield.  Sympathy is extended to her sons, Jimmy, Townalough, Richard, Claremorris, John, Kiltimagh, Martin, Knock.   Daughter Marion Hanrahan, Dublin
The death also took place of Mary Larkin, Stonepark. Sympathy is extended to her sons, Martin, Brownhall, Michael, Ballymakeogh, Frank, Castlebar, Gerard, New York. Daughters, Bernadine Jennings, Howth, Dublin, Ann O’Boyle, Drogheda, Carmel Power, Scotland, Margaret Clarke, Glenageary, Co Dublin
The death took place in Chicago recently of Mary Jane Wetterling, formerly Mary Jane Hurst, Oury. She attended school in Mayo Abbey in the very early fifties.  The family moved from Mayo Abbey many years ago.
RESULTS OF THE PARISH DEVELOPMENT DRAW.
This years Mayo Abbey Development draw was held recently in the Beaten Path. The draw covers mortgage and maintenance repayments.  Ticket sales were down slightly this year but there was still a very good return, considering that there was a debt of over €170,000 eight years ago.  The committee thank the sellers who have put in such dedication through the years to bring the debt down to under € 20,000.
