DEVELOPMENT DRAW IN TWO WEEKS.
Saturday November 8th is the night of the Mayo Abbey development draw.
This annual draw is to cover mortgage, maintenance and running costs within the centre.
Ticket sellers are reminded to ensure that all households in the parish have an opportunity to buy tickets.
Last Saturday night the interim sellers-draw was held for those who sold tickets early.
The winners were, 1st Denise Duggan (€100 An Post voucher.) 2nd Mary Jo Barrett (bottle brandy),
3rd Willie Fitzgerald (bottle whiskey).
The prizes in this years draw are 1st, € 2,000, 2nd, €1,000, 3rd, €500, 4th, €200 and 5th, €100.
To show the committees appreciation of the great work done by sellers over the years this year there are many prizes for the sellers. The prizes for the sellers of the most tickets are, 1st 2 night B&B + one evening meal in the Sleibe Russell Hotel, Cavan (Sponsored by Quinn Cement). 2nd , €100 Voucher for heating oil. POSTPONEMENT
The auction night in Malachy Byrnes, Mayo Abbey for the Nial Mellon Trust Fund is postponed until Saturday November 1st at 10-00p.m. Sharp. Michael and Kathleen Vahey and Helen Murphy are travelling to South Africa in November 2008 as part of the Nial Mellon team. For the auction they are looking for people to donate unwanted gifts. All items must be new or unused. Your support would be much appreciated. The trio thank you for your support so far for this project. All donations gratefully accepted. VACANCIES
There are two vacancies on Mayo Abbey FÁS Community Employment scheme, working in Heritage and Gardening. Heritage Research administration assistant is required for the heritage committee to assist with research and exhibition planning. Organic Garden Project requires a person to assist in the running and maintaining of the garden. This work includes all aspects related to growing and cultivating of organic crops in tunnels and outdoors, I-e weeding, trimming etc. Applicants for all CE vacancies must meet specific eligibility criteria. FOOD HYGIENE
A primary food hygiene programme training course takes place in St. Colman’s Training centre, Mayo Abbey on Monday November 3rd from 9-30 a.m. to 5-30 p.m. The exam takes place on Thursday November 6th from 10-00a.m. to 11-00a.m. The cost of the course is €165 includes Certification, Light lunch / soup and sandwiches. The tutor is Fiona McLoughlin. The course is certified by the Environmental Health Officers Association.
This training programme is designed to give food handlers the skills and awareness in the fundamentals of good food hygiene and safety practices.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT
Mayo Abbey Active Retirement meets every second Friday. Dinners for the elderly are served every Friday at 1-00 p.m. Anyone not needing dinner but interested in taking part in the Active Retirement afternoons can come in at 2-00p.m. Community bus collects members for dinner and returns them home after 3-00p.m.
INDOOR BOWLS
Now that the winter is setting in you can enjoy a game of indoor bowls in Mayo Abbey centre every Tuesday night at 8-00p.m. Anyone interested can call in on the night.
