Lorrha GAA News for 17 January

November 8, 2018

Dinner Dance: We held a very successful annual dinner dance in the County Arms Hotel, Birr on Saturday night. In all, almost 200 people attended what was a very enjoyable night and big thank you to the management and staff of the hotel for preparing such a lovely meal. Prior to the commencement, there was a minute’s silence held in the memory of former club Chairman, Bobby Dillon who passed away on Thursday night.
Following the meal, guest of honour, Tony Reddan, presented the Senior and Under 14 hurlers with their winner’s medals. Presentations were also made to the 11 players from both the hurling and camogie club that represented Tipperary at all ages and grades in 2008. The players of the year were also announced. Young player of the year was Philip Hogan, Junior hurler of the year was Donal Kennedy while Patrick Maher was named Senior hurler of the year.

Sympathy: The sympathy of the Lorrha club goes to the Dillon family on the death of our former Chairman, Bobby Dillon who passed away last week. Bobby was Chairman of club for two years in 1976 and 1977 and also served as Vice-Chairman in the early 80’s. His tenure coincided with the upturn in fortunes at underage level when Lorrha won Under 14 ‘B’ title in both 76 and 77 while the under 16’s won the ‘B’ title in 76, a prelude to success at senior level in the 80’s.
