Lorrha GAA News for 17 March

Senior: The senior hurlers got their league campaign off to a winning start with a 1-18 to 0-12 win over Newport in Moatfield on Sunday, with Jack Maher getting the goal. Lorrha will be away to Holycross in round two on Sunday, 18th March at 12 noon.

Junior: Lorrha begin the defence of the North Junior 'B' Hurling League against Kiladangan in Puckane on Monday 19th March at 3.00pm

Minor: Lorrha Rovers Gaels battled hard but were defeated 3-8 to 2-6 by Inane Rovers in the North Minor 'A' Football semi-final in Roscrea on Saturday.

Under 16: Lorrha Rovers Gaels begin their Under 16 'A' Football Championship campaign against Ballina in Moatfield on Monday 26th March at 6.30pm

Under 14: Lorrha play Newport in the semi-final of Feile 'A' Hurling this Monday, 19th March in Ballina at 11am. If they win they play the final at 12.30pm

In the U14 'B' Football Championship, Lorrha begin on Wednesday 28th March against Kiladangan in Moatfield at 6.30pm.

Under 12: The U12 football championship began last evening (Tuesday) with Lorrha playing Kiladangan in both the 'B' and 'D' grade. The 'B' team enjoyed a fine win while the 'D' team were defeated.

Their next games are on Friday 23rd March with both teams playing Kilruane MacDonaghs in Cloughjordan from 6.00pm.

Under 6, 8 & 10: On Monday, 2nd April, a six week course for under 6, 8 & 10 players will start in the Complex in Moatfield from 6.30 to 7.30pm. This course will develop movement and coordination in a games based and fun way. It will also be age specific. The course costs €2 per night per child. Places are limited so contact Juvenile chairman Tom Kennedy 0879191689 to confirm.

Membership: for 2018 is now due. €90 – Adult player; €50 – Minor/College student; €30 – Non-playing Adult (+€70 extra for gym membership); €20 – Juvenile (16 & under); €90 – Family (2 adults & 2 children, capped at €100 for three or more children).

Closing date for all membership is 31st March. It is important to remember that our total number of adult members by 31st March is the number the County Board will use towards our ticket allocations for Tipperary games so it is in your interest to have membership paid by then. Membership can be paid to registrar Louise Mannion or online at www.locallotto.ie.

A membership registration night will take place in Moatfield on Monday 12th March from 8-9.30pm.

Scór na bPáistí: Well done to the representatives from the Club who took part in the North Finals last weekend. The Quiz team of Cian Hayes, Liam Donoghue, Clodagh Kennedy and Rachel Cleary were runners-up in the 'A' final in Newport on Sunday, while the Novelty Act: “Redwood Nursing Home” of Dermot Houlihan, Kate Houlihan, Niamh Patterson, Jason Houlihan, Sophie Houlihan, Leanne Sullivan and Ben Hough were unable to take part in the 'B' Final on Friday in Borrisoleigh due to unforeseen circumstances.

Poker Classic: The annual Lorrha GAA Poker Classic took place in Moatfield last Saturday night and we would like to thank all those who took part, your support is appreciated.

First Aid Course: The club have organised a First Aid Course on Thursday 15th March in the GAA Centre. We need 12 people to take part. Cost €10 per head. Anyone interested to contact Louise Mannion 0876598387.

Tipperary Clubs Draw: The club had no winner in the March draw held last Friday night. There is one draw left so we ask all promoters to bring their accounts up to date.

Social Dancing: continues on Friday night with music of Declan Aungier, from 9.30pm til late.

Sympathy: Lorrha GAA Club would like to sympathise with the O'Hara family, on the death of Frank O'Hara, Annagh, and to the Corrigan family on the passing of John Corrigan, England, and late of Kilfadda. May they rest in peace.
