Golf Classic:
Thanks to all who participated or sponsored our
golf classic fundraiser in Birr last Friday. Almost 30 teams took part in ideal
conditions on a well-prepared course. Thanks to Birr Golf Club and to Michael
Liffey and William Harding for their hard work in organising the event.
This years
winners were the Portroe team of Darren Gleeson, Liam Hogan, Bernard Hogan and
Niall Shinnors. Second were Ena & Pascal Moran, Martin Kennedy and Mike
Kiniry. Christy McGarry’s team was third with David O’Meara’s team finishing
fourth. Longest drive: Men: Darren Gleeson; Ladies: Margaret Feehan. Nearest
Pin: Men: Brian O’Meara.
Lotto:
Our jackpot reached a record
high of €19,250 this week. Thanks
to everyone who is supporting our lotto, which is the clubs main source of
fundraising. With the jackpot currently high, the number of players is growing
by the week, particularly online on www.locallotto.ie
where it is easy to play every week. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5.
Senior: The
seniors ended their league campaign with a 1-12 to 1-9 win over Kildangan in
Puckane on Thursday evening. Lorrha must now wait to see if they have done
enough to make the semi-finals.
Junior: The
juniors continued their winning ways in the championship with a deserved 1-10
to 0-7 win over Burgess in Puckane on Sunday evening. Next up is a game against
Kildangan on weekend 10-11 July.
U21: The U21
Hurling quarter final against Templederry has been rescheduled for next Tuesday
evening @ 7.30pm in Nenagh.
Minor football: Lorrha and Portroe failed to be separated for the second time this
year as Portroe scored two late points to force a replay in the Minor ‘B’
semi-final. Final score Lorrha 2-9 Portroe 1-12. Replay will take place later
in the summer.
Minor hurling: The attention of the minors turns to hurling this Saturday as they
take on Borrisokane in the opening round of the championship. The game takes
place in Borrisokane @ 8pm.
U14 Hurling: Next up is Shannon Rovers Gaels in Ballinderry next Wednesday
(tonight) @ 6.45pm, followed by a home game against Portroe next Wednesday.
U12: The
U12’s suffered two defeats last week to Templederry and Shannon Rovers. Their
final group game is against Silvermines this Friday where they require a win to
remain in the championship.
Tipp Draw: Well
done to Margaret Gleeson who won €200 in this months Tipperary Draw.
Support your club: Thanks to all those who signed up to the Vodafone Support Your Club
scheme. Our latest payment was issued by Vodafone last week and was well up on
March’s total. If you still have not signed up, log on to www.supportyourgaaclub.ie and
register your number with Lorrha GAA. 5% of your monthly bill or top-up will
come to the club.
Inter-county: Best of Luck to Patrick Maher and the Tipperary team in this
Saturdays All Ireland Qualifier against Wexford in Semple Stadium.
Lorrha will be doubly represented in this
Sundays Leinster Hurling Finals. John McIntyre will be at the helm for Galway
against Kilkenny in the senior decider while at minor level David Needham is a
selector with Dublin as they take on Kilkenny. Best of luck to both.
Cúl Camp: This years Lorrha GAA Cúl Camp will take place on the week of 19-23
July. The camp is open to all boys and girls from age six upwards. Each
participant will receive a kit which will include jersey, socks, togs and gear
bag. Application forms are being distributed through the schools this week. The
cost for one child is €55, two children €100 and three children €135. All

Old Time Dancing: Old Time Dancing continues on Friday night to the music of Kieran
White & Just 2. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am.
