JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Our second team travelled to Dundrum on Saturday evening last to play Golden/Kilfeacle in the first round of the West Junior B hurling championship. Sean Treacys lost the toss and ended up playing against a strong breeze in the first half however they managed to contribute more scores in this period than the second. Treacys had goalkeeper Seamus Butler to thank for two fines in first half after some good work by the Golden full forward. Points from Joe Carey, Pat Hickey, a Paudie Carr free and a John Butler point were the only scores Treacys could manage in the opening half in comparison to Golden’s ten points. Treacys were also dealt a major blow in the first half after full forward John Butler was forced off with injury being replaced by Player/Manager, Willie Ryan. Even with the advantage of the wind in the second half, our side found it difficult to break down a solid Golden defence and only registered a single point courtesy of Willie Ryan. Golden managed to sneak a goal fifteen minutes from time and Treacys full back Tom Keane saw red for a minor foul on a Golden player.

The final score finished Sean Treacys 0-5 Golden 1-13.

Sean Treacys team/scorers was as follows: Seamus Butler Seamus Costello Tom Keane Colm Nolan Donncha O Brien TJ Quigley Paul Hogan Andy Ryan Pat Hickey(0-1) Paudie Carr (0-1f) John Berkery Joe Carey (0-1) Shane Fahey John Butler (0-1) Sean O Dwyer.
