Over the last 123 years Meelick-Eyrecourt GAA club has experienced many proud moments in its playing history but surely our proudest off-field achievement occurred on March 7th when our book The History of the GAA in Meelick-Eyrecourt-Clonfert 1884-2007 was launched. The hardback tome, in colour, lovingly researched & compiled by Christy & Maeve Kearns is truly a credit to them & the club. The launch was held in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel with a huge crowd of over 700 in attendance. Members of the audience were treated to speeches by such luminaries as; GAA President Nickey Brennan who launched the book, Chairman of the county board Gerry Larkin, Chairperson of the Galway Camogie Board Geraldine McGrath, Club Chairman Tommy Treacy & the author Christy Kearns.
The speeches were peppered with a sharp & witty marshalling of proceedings by M.C. Ollie Turner of Galway Bay FM. All of this was preceded by mass concelebrated by Fr. John Naughton & Fr. PJ Bracken. After the ceremonies entertainment was provided by ‘Misty Midland’ & DJ Ronan Howe who capped off a great night in the small hours of the morning. The book brings back great memories of teams past & present with its detailed overview coupled with wonderful photos spanning all the decades. The book can be purchased in local shops or alternatively from Club Secretary Marie Treacy (057) 91 51898
